ABOUT US

Kathleen A. Hrabovsky, AIA, LEED AP, MSSD, received both her Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Sustainable Design degrees from Carnegie-Mellon University. Kathy has practiced and taught in the architecturally rich cities of Pittsburgh, Chicago, and New York in the residential, retail, elderly and disabled housing, luxury condominium, and commercial office interior disciplines. She is also an experienced activist and speaker leading in the Pittsburgh community as an Adjunct Instructor in the Interior Architecture Program at Chatham University; as a researcher in the area of sustainable design, building performance and sustainable community development; and through her commitment to educating the general public on topics related to sustainability. Kathy is chair of the Environmental Sustainability Board (ESB), Mt. Lebanon, where she has written proposals for and received funding for the Mt. Lebanon Climate Action Plan Update, the Mt. Lebanon Park Rain-Garden Demonstration Project, and the Mt. Lebanon ESB Energy Camel Project. She also participates in the reEnergize Mt. Lebanon program, organized by gTech Strategies, where she collaborates with the community to promote energy conservation and home weatherization; and in the Sustainability Coordinators Group convened by Sustainable Pittsburgh, where she shares visions and successful strategies with local sustainability coordinators. Kathy was awarded the Vera Heinz Travel Award to study architecture in Greece, has presented research related to integrative design as an indispensible component of the sustainable design process at the Interior Design Educators Council 2013 international conference and at The Precarious Alliance 2014 conference, and is a driving force behind sustainable topics such as sustainable design, energy & water conservation, green infrastructure, recycling, and ecycling in her community. She is a member of the AIA, is a LEED AP (BD+C and ID+C), and is a RESNET Home Energy Rater/BPI Analyst 1. Hrabovsky’s sustainable community development projects have been published in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and have been broadcast on WESA, PGH.
